I am staying here now and man, what a dump. This is one of the old-style Marriotts that had made me avoid the brand for so long: Spartan and dated furniture, lots of faded flower prints and fuzzy patterns on carpets, wafer-thin doors and poor soundproofing against the roar of I-10 outside. Just like in the early 90ies.
One of 3 elevators is broken, and the gym is tiny and loveless. The rooms do not have safety boxes and the small work table is cluttered with the coffee maker and a lamp.
On a brighter note, yes there is free Wifi in the lobby and they have switched to flat screen TVs now.
This hotel was cheap. And it feels that way.
