This is not necessarily the case. It depends on where you're flying and what class you're flying in.
If traveling to/from Europe in BusinessElite, you get 3x 70lb bags. If in Economy, it's 2x 50lb bags.

Also, one segment of my international portion is on Air France economy. The first leg will be DL business class. I assume my bag will be checked all the way through. So can I ignore Air France checked baggage rules?
If you're connecting from your DL flight, your bag(s) should be checked through to your final destination.
