If that person is angry/difficult/ annoying enough, they might drag someelse into it that has clear authority. And that person is very likely to side with the contractor/ employee at least on the point that you should have obeyed their orders.
Actually, in all but one report on this topic, the TSA agent told the UA agent that they weren't allowed to follow customers and to go back to their station, and proceeded to treat the passenger respectfully.

I think the TSA agents think of the UA agents as silly wannabe rent-a-cops who wish they had their jobs.
