If you have the budget for a hotel stay, I'd be inclined to try to turn it into an overnight at YVR, then an early morning flight to LGA through YOW/YUL/YYZ, whichever gives you the best connection. The Canada Line gets you into the city really easily, and the Fairmont at the airport is a great hotel.
