OK, well in that case my advice is simple (as someone who has gone bushwalking / hiking in January in Australia), work out how much water you think you'll need, and then triple it.

Make sure you have long sleeve but lose fitting clothes to protect you from the sun (extreme UV danger at that time of year, so sunburn would be a major concern, don't forget the sunscreen for the parts you just can't cover), make sure you have a working phone with you at all times.

All common sense stuff I know, however I've also met more than the one tourist whom underestimated this country and ended up not having the greatest time.

Finally enjoy, as you already know the rock is something pretty special...
