Cathay Pacific versus Singapore Airlines. Which is best for Frequent Flyers?
In fairness, if you are SIN based, SQ redemptions are a lot easier to use. I typically use Asiamiles for longhaul outright (usually India-US for folks or vv or my Sis) or companion redemptions for my wife, and SQ for India-SIN redeyes in biz or intra-US F redemptions or weird routings where krisflyer's zonal chart is cheaper than Asiamiles' distance based one (UA requires biz class mileage, while AA requires F class mileage if using Asiamiles because of the booking class used..have also used krisflyer for expensive intra EU and South America bookings). AM starts kicking a$$ on longer distances/multi carrier awards, and the fuel surcharges on own metal are lower.
Not really used so far, but Asiamiles PE->J redemptions seem to be good value too, though ex SIN upgradable PE fares are about the same as what I used to pay for ex CMB biz fres (via SIN).
Please do let us know how the credit card specific booking goes- would be a very useful data point! (And hopefully, buttress my view that CX doesn't really care as all the card promos except one at any point in time give the exact same fare).
