That said, I think the OP (who has never replied to any of this) simply failed to measure his bag. There are other clues in that post that suggest such.

But, I did think it was a good chance to point out that we are assuming all the sizers are the same just because one or two Fters have reported measurements on one or two of a "bigillion" sizers out there. I would not be surprised to find out that there are some old sizers that were reused, or that United had multiple contracts and one the contracts produced a group that differs some. Again, as to the post that started this, I think the answer is that the OP never measured his bag.
My bag fits just fine with the exception that sometimes it is too fat. I like to separate my running shoes so I put them in the outside pocket (creates a lot of extra height) and depending on the length of my trip (extra clothes) it has some difficulty fitting. I just need to compress it and it slides in.

My original goal of the thread was to inform that it seems that at LAX and as other have stated other airports are starting to enforce carry-on sizing. In the last couple years I have never been asked about my carry on nor seen it being enforced but it has now happened twice in a couple of weeks.

Correct me if I am wrong but when checking in online they now have another page that confirms that your carry on is the proper size. I do not remember that occurring before a couple months ago. So United may be pushing for more enforcement as time goes on.

I would gladly check my bag if it came out within 15 minutes every time. I think kettles don't want to pay the extra money and have to deal with the risk of weighting or losing a bag.

The last time I checked a bag was flying from EWR-DTW. I waited about 1 hour and my bag never came. Went to the baggage desk and looked it up and it showed my bag had arrived. It was lost at DTW. I started searching other belts and I found it on a different one. Along with my bag was a few others who also could not find their bags.

To end my long comment I will add another dimension, weight. As other have mentioned overseas they periodically check weight. I am sure some carry-ons are over 45lbs. Think about if they ever decide to start enforcing weight limits here. First you put it in a sizer and then on a scale. Better yet maybe they can integrate the two. Now that is efficiency at work.
