I am pretty sure that the list sorting is automatic. However a few things can happen.

1. The Pax status can be changed. The can be coded as through or different status.

2. They can be coded as a First Class ticket on standby

3. They can just be put into an F seat.

Of above, #1 will reorder the upgrade list, #2 may not show up on the 'upgrade' list, not sure if this will be on the standby list.

I suspect that none of this can be done willy nilly without ramifications and hence require some level of justification. a 'whoops, though they were through pax' is prolly OK, but 'why did you give a revenue F seat to a pax without status and no notes in the record' is a different story.

On a recent irrops me and my son were put onto a flight directly into F. He was on a first saver, I was coach with an X upgrade. Weather delay, not MX. If someone was watching this flight 2 F seats just disappeared and nobody moved on the waitlist. Technically (I think) I should have stood by for that flight and if cleared, upgrade once the list was cleared. Im a CK.
