In the U.S., via Barclays, the best sign-up bonus offer I see if 50K total--20K after first purchase, +30K after 5K spend (a bit high in my opinion), and annual fee of $79 *not* waived first year (typical for Barclays not to waive first year annual fee, so not too concerned there).

Never mind. I took the 50K total after completing minimum required spend of 5K. Christmas season is upon us. And don't plan on applying for any other cards soon.
However, since I love Star Alliance for getting to Europe (vs. AA/BA currencies with its London Tax)--flown many times using United miles on *A partners like AC and LH--I'm sure 50K isn't sufficient to get from the U.S. to Europe.
New questions would be:
* For U.S. citizens, without getting M&M miles through Spend alone, are there any good / easy promos available for getting another 10 to 15K Lufthansa M&M miles?
Haven't looked at award charts; but I typically expect to pay 60K United Miles per person to get to Europe--at least in shoulder seasons like May and Sept/Oct... Don't know if it's higher or lower when redeeming award travel on *A partners using M&M miles. Is there any difference, either higher or lower?
