I did have to pay my own way to overnight last night when an ORD-STL flight was cancelled "due to weather in Chicago" (although UA didn't cancel their flight) which in turn resulted in my STL-ORD flight being cancelled and therefore my being unable to connect ORD-BOS.
I also had to pay more stickers to UG on re-routing thru DFW.
I think they use this weather excuse too liberally. They did the same thing over the ATC delays in ORD recently.
These are all a cost of doing businesses and should be funded by the airlines, IMO.
