I did find out the hard way that the free nights cannot be applied to what they consider a 'package' rate, including AMEX FHR rates. Even if they are the same as BAR.

I should have booked through FHR and then FPC for the free nights rather than expect to book it all as FHR and apply the cert on site.

Even though I pointed out that I could have done that, got the same benefits and paid the same rate, niether Kea Lani or the Orchid would budge.
