In Japan under the older/formal system "12 am" is 12 noon and "12 pm" is midnight, although nowadays most people seem to use a twenty-four hour clock.

If you arranged to arrive on a specific day or wished to be met by another at the airport, I suppose it could cause some confusion for a small number of people.
