You (like me to a certain degree) are already more organized than most people in regards to their inbox. The idea is to get people to either "Check" an email as "Done" or "Snooze" it to act on later, so the ONLY thing you're seeing is what's new. If you use your inbox as a quasi to-do list, this paradigm just doesn't work. It's also an extension of the original GMail premise of "Don't delete, Archive" in which nothing is deleted (meaning there's more data for them to forage for smart notifications, analytics, and other snoopy-type activities). You really have to shift how you think about email to a large degree for Inbox to work, it seems.
I guess that's it. This new G Inbox is more for younger people who didn't grow up with old email systems from the 80's and 90's where you had to be better organized. I'm often shocked when I happen to glance at someone else's mailbox and see hundreds of unread messages. During the day a message doesn't go unread for more than an hour or so in my gmail acct. And then it is usually deleted instantly or categorized into a folder.
