There have been reports of success when people have contacted the property beforehand and inquired. Sometimes they may suggest an upcharge, sometimes they may just do it. I've found the staff here easy to work with for requests, especially the individuals staffing the club desk upstairs.
What are the magic words? I'm a diamond member and I've asked twice: in September and just now for this month before my stay. In September, they upgraded me to a Grand Suite at check-in but would not confirm ahead. My mum is a platinum member, got upgraded to a junior suite this month but not given lounge access. I hope they surprise me again
