Sure does, as a country - you hear about it being really prevalent there (and China). But that by no means excuses (and I'm not asserting that you're saying that it does) a major international chain hotel from running this scam on its own customers. Part of what you're paying for at a chain hotel is consistency and few surprises. If I wanted to take a chance, I'd go for a mom and pop or boutique and probably get a better room, better service, better everything for less money. But with a chain you're paying for familiarity, and trust. Not for them to stick it to you when you let your guard down.

Part of what was most infuriating to me was that they did this using my Hhonors co-branded card that they know full well does NOT charge a forex fee!!!

I wonder if this deserves a pot-stirring over at the Hhonors ambassador thread? Seems like a pretty widespread issue that the brand has turned its back to.
