Unless this policy is very new, this seems odd. I have driven MANY 1500-2000 mile weeklies over the past several years. Never a word, nobody blinks an eye on return. I've done 1500 mile 4-day weekends. To be fair, my last one of these trips was 6 months ago, that's why I say unless the policy is very new. That was a 2000+ mile weekly, although might have been 8 or 9 day rental. I drive from here to Florida and back, plus probably a couple hundred while in Florida. I'd say more of my rentals were the 1500+ mile trips than were the shorter ones, although I usually had a few shorter ones each year. I would have done another 2000+ mile trip in Sept/Oct and not even worried about it, but I ended up getting a new car and driving that instead. (Most of my long rentals were because I didn't want to take my really old car on that long of a trip.)

Anyway, what pinniped says seems perfectly reasonable: Book rental and go. If Hertz actually does blacklist you after ONE rental like this, so what? Why would you want to give them your repeated business anyway? Or, if you're really counting on using Hertz over and over later, then book this one rental with a different company. No problems.
