google.com/flights is a good tool. Look at two transcontinental trips. For example, LAX-IAD-LAX same day return 12/6 is $271, 4576 miles. LAX-IAH-MIA same day return 12/5 is $325, 5198 miles. Find two trips that meet your exact mileage needs, should be able to find for less than $600.
