June would be the rainy season on the west Coast - Langkawi and Penang but I personally have had very little rain - only short heavy downpours. Same climate as Phuket.

In langkawi I suggest the Datai - hated the beach at the FS although I didn't stay. Penang I like a lot more as a destination because of the culture, architecture and food. It is a lot more built up than langkawi but I still like it. Really liked the E&O but if you want a beach hotel the Rasa Sayang a S-La hotel is at the quiet end of Batu Ferringhi - we stayed at the Lone Pine which isn't a Luxury hotel but very enjoyable for a few days - good service.
