A colleague of mine has a belt where the buckle comes off. he puts that into the tray and strolls thru the metal detector.
Also the settings at airports are very different. I once got on at Taipei unknowingly with my swiss army knife in my backpack. it wasnt discovered until i went thru security again in YVR.
Ain`t that the truth, when I was based out of CDG I flew short-haul, medium haul and long haul pretty much every week. Had one of those Leatherman multi-purpose tools in my laptop bag for over a year before I noticed it. This was post 9/11 as well.
They don`t call it Security Theatre for nothing you know!
