I am flying Bos-Lax tonight. I am Premier Gold. There were 9 first class seats available for sale three days ago. So I start thinking, ok, Global first and 1Ks will take some seats then Premier Platinum. At 48 hours out, it was my turn, and United is still showing 5 first class seat for sale. But Nothing, no upgrade offered. I call United. No upgrades avaialble... hmmm.
24 hours out..... I can check in... There are only 3 first class seats showing as available for sale. still no offer of upgrade......BUT they now offer to sell me a seat for $250..... I have a ton of work I have to do.... so I take out the credit card and purchase it......
BUT, I am frustrated.... doesn't this go against he whole point of being an elite traveler with one airline?upgrade by FEAR !!! Shame on United... Has anyone else run into this? Please advise....
Explanation is simple. [
Edited by Moderator: Elite flyers stay loyal to UA even though they do this, so why not. They got an extra $250 (in most cases $39) out of It and lost nothing.

Reason: To avoid undue personalization per FT Rules and correct typo.
