As a Platinum, I have about a 70% success rate of getting upgraded at Residence Inns. I book the queen studio and frequently get placed in a 2 story, 2br 2 bath suite.

I get a pretty cheap rate (about $140 a night), so I don't think the money side has anything to do with it.
