UA is a business who provides perks to frequent fliers. One of those perks is to be upgraded if there is space available if seats are unsold. United has never had a policy of stop selling seats and upgrade people as that is not a revenue stream. Have to remember, United is a business to make money not to upgrade frequent fliers. Unfortunately, sometimes I look out for the upgrade that does not come because the seats were held until last minute for sale.
BUT, I am frustrated.... doesn't this go against he whole point of being an elite traveler with one airline?upgrade by FEAR !!! Shame on United... Has anyone else run into this? Please advise....:confused
This does not go against the whole point of being an elite traveller with one airline. Doing so increases your chances of all the elite perks but does not guarantee getting that perk each time you travel. If that were the case, how would any airline ever sell any Business or First class seats since there is usually significant number of GS, 1K, Plat, Gold travellers on majority of flights.
