Yeah, too bad the local taxpayer gets "cheated" out of some of the outrageously exorbitant local taxes targeted at travelers to fund a new NFL or MLB stadium, or the like. Tax folks who can't vote you out.
actually the way the law is written no one, not even the federal government, is excluded from taxes that go to promote tourism....so to use a Metro Detroit example, someone from the federal government staying at a metro Detroit hotel would be able to have the 6% State of Michigan tax waived (with direct payment I might add) but they would not be able to have the 8% tourism tax waived.....now is the new stadium tax really a tourism tax? I'm not a lawyer so I'll let someone else answer that
(I can't tell you the number of times guests assume they are 100% tax free, it varies by location)
