That was my original plan since that's how we did Kyoto years ago but they seem to become less flexible on the leave time on the 2nd day so it was shot down (I sent them an email about just getting unreserved spots on a later train and they never replied. But their FAQ says you can't change or pick a time). And the sight seeing pass probably isn't that good for us since we're on a time crunch (and 4 people) so might taxi a bunch of places.
Actually hm, it might work out the same price as the JR pass and we actually get to use it a little bit more.
JR Pass 29,1k yen versus
21600 yen Kyoto
2600 Keisei Skyliner back to Narita
1500 ticket from Narita
= -3400 versus JR pass
If we use those savings to buy the Hakone pass, then it would be only 1700 yen more. Whether or not we ride 1700 worth of transit is another story.
