You can also buy traveller cheques (in pounds), and then simply pay them into your current account. It won't be free, there is a 1% fee I think, but would be very easy. You have to do it through the Amex travel money portal. Even though it says that this will be treated as a cash withdrawal, it won't (unless they changed it recently). I did it myself a few months ago.
