Excellent question, have things changed? Perhaps the Thai airline employees are more aware of the Thai entry exit rules than Delta or other US airlines? I have read of cases on various forums where people ARE denied boarding if they have a return ticket in more than 30 days with no tourist visa and it has me nervous.
That's the frustrating point, it is very easy to plan exit/entry so that one does not overstay, but if the airline does not know that, they get nervous about it.
I guess you could call Delta and ask. Just tell them you are in the planning stages of the trip. I think the airlines are more concerned about how much time till your passport expiration, which I
think is six months for Thailand.
