Fairfield Inn Manhattan Downtown East (New York)

Just completed a one-night stay at Fairfield Inn Manhattan Downtown East last weekend on the night before the NYC Marathon.

I typically do not stay at FIs, but this was the only Category 6 property in Manhattan, and since I'm trying to burn through my Marriott points, I could not afford a Cat 7.

Location is on Henry St. in Chinatown; the East Broadway subway stop was about 3 blocks away (not as close as reviews suggest). It is a smaller property but is reasonably new and clean.

Reviews on TripAdvisor and other sites complain of the strong fishy odor coming from the adjacent Chinese Supermarket. We could definitely smell the fish in the elevator and the back stairway but not in the halls, lobby, or room.

The room was a standard-issue CY/FI one with one exception - no bathtub and a stand-up large shower which I strongly prefer. There was complimentary botted water in the room - not sure if this is standard for FI as I rarely stay at them.

Breakfast was an insane mob scene as the breakfast area is quite small and combined with the "business center."

A new, clean, comfortable place to stay in Manhattan. I paid 30k points for it, the same amount that I paid for a corner suite at the Beaux Arts in Miami last year, which is crazy to think about. Cash rate was $359 if I recall correctly. I certainly would not pay that much to stay there and would rather stay in Brooklyn or Queens to save money.
