Speaking of Motel 6, I'm quite impressed by their new clean renovated rooms with wooden floors, granite counter, free WiFi, and flat-screen TVs. I happened to stay in 2 of the new Motel 6's in CA and loved my stay.
From my experience though, they still tend to have a funny smell in them.
I stayed in one in Springfield, OR though not long ago and that one wasn't bad.
They can bring in unpleasant people too.
