Flew this route earlier this year as well: BKK/PEK/YYZ/YXU in J.

1) J has separate check-in pavilion in BKK airport, very calm and low key. Luggage checked thru to YYZ/YXU, did not have to handle in PEK.
2) BKK agent unable to print my PEK-YYZ or YYZ-YXU tickets. On arrival in PEK went to the general/shared transfer desk (the sign above the desk showed many airlines logos) and we were given diligently (and slowly) hand-written boarding passes for AC32 segment. Went to lounge. At boarding time, was standing in priority boarding line and was paged to counter where AC GA gave me AC printed boarding passes for both YYZ and YXU segments.
