I just landed at JFK from Madrid (AA 95, 11/2/14) and had a few minutes during a layover to reflect on an onboard incident.

While boarding I found that there was no blanket or pillow on my seat (21 H), so I grabbed one of the extra business class blankets stacked up a few seats ahead of mine. There were about a dozen of them and I didn't rob one from a passenger seat.

After taking off, it became super cold (women were wearing blankets on their heads, everyone was complaining) and I spread out my blanket on my lap. 20 minutes later, a flight attendant (young, with short, bright red hair) comes by and tells me to give up my blanket because those were special blankets for crew only. I was half asleep at this point and I said "You're really going to take away my blanket, when the cabin is 60 degrees?, and I didn't budge.

She huffed off and returned about 10 minutes later and accused me of stealing this blanket from a restricted crew area (they were in plain view stacked on an empty seat) and I asked if we could please stop this little drama. She continued to berate me so I dropped the blanket on the aisle floor and said "Take your god&#% blanket and leave me alone."

She never returned with another standard blanket or apologized.

It turns out these special crew blankets went unused and they were, in fact, the same as the business class blankets and there were plenty of them.

Not a great way to attract a United 1k flyer to try more American flights...
