Of course, if both the original travel dates and the new travel dates are sufficiently far away for I class availability not to be a problem, then one possible strategy (if there are no I class sale fares in place when you know that you will definitely make the change) is to hold off making the change until the next round of I class sale fares is in place or until I class availability starts coming under pressure. But that may require strong nerves.
