My last flight through ZRH was March 2013. At that time, I told the screeners that I wished to opt out. I had to listen to three different people tell me how safe the scanner is, but I continued to ask to opt out.

I was allowed to opt out, and the patdown was much less intrusive than ones I've had in the US.

With regard to carriers, I believe the scanners are in use for all flights to the US.
