Dead camera on S Am trip - try self fix? Cameras in SCL or LIM?

I bought a refurbed Canon S100 2 months ago and it worked great, until yesterday. Known issue with Powershot and other Canon compact cameras where the cable to the lens assembly comes loose in high humidity and/or high temperature conditions (mine is one of the last batches affected and I thought it would have been fixed given it's a refurb).

Currently in IPC where there is no repair facility, and there is so much to photograph. What's worse, back up to Peru and Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley next.

Have a simple Nikon P&S and a cell phoine as backups but they seem inadequate except with best lighting.

Canon will fix the S100 for free but it doesn't help me now. There is a self-fix video on Youtube but it's 40 mins long so can't be simple and I don't have any tools with me except for a small Phillips.

Other possibility is to buy a camera on my way to CUZ. Have an overnight stop in SCL, not much time in LIM (1 1/2 hr transit). Doubt Cusco will have anything, let alone Ollantaytambo or Agua Caliente. Any ideas if the airport shops have decent selection/prices? Looking for a RAW shooter.
