South American Irrops
Hello FTer's...
Would love to hear of anyone's experiences with a cancelled South American to US flight. I would like to know better if what I experienced was the "norm" or just a horrendous event.
I was scheduled on Flight 110 from EZE to ATL; 10/28. We boarded at 1915 for a 2010 departure. Storms were in the picture and the fuel tank refiling was delayed. This went on and on until 0030 when the flight was officially cancelled. We then were herded off the aircraft, through customs and told to retrieve our bags. After that there was total chaos (a AA and United flight also fell to this same fate). The luggage retrieval and wait areas were so cramped, many folks could barely move. There was sporadic communication amongst groups of Delta passengers and agents. We ultimately were all loaded onto individual vans/buses and transported to hotels. I have no idea what the other passengers experienced but I can tell you the hotel where I was sent made the Hampton Inn feel like a 4 Seasons. This BA hotel was old, dingy, moldy and to top it off, everyone had to share a room. This meant many of us roomed with total strangers.
I left the hotel 5 hours after arrival to head back to the airport as there was much improved space and amenities.
My question....has anyone experienced something similar. The BA operations needs significant improvement to their irrops plan. With only one Delta flight out of EZE daily, surely this will happen again.
Thank you in advance for your comments.
