If that one segment in Y was the only segment being upgraded with an SWU, then the SWU is unused and will be returned. Maybe not automatically. Ask at the club or gate, but if it doesnt keep the Y boarding pass and contact CR later.
If the SWU is used for multiple segments, and only one segment drops to Y, then no you will not get an SWU back.....
Thanks, this is what I thought but wanted to confirm. Trip I am thinking of is connecting LAX-BWI, but won't request the SWU unless A space looks open on both flights.
