If you can't get hold of any Avios, do an open jaw - fly DFW-LHR, stop there for as long as you wish and fly home from, say, FRA or CDG. Either take trains or buy a cash ticket on BA for the hop over to the Continent - both options will not be much more expensive than paying the YQ surcharge BA commands on AA awards.
