Can you explain/explore this a bit? It's the first I've heard of it, and, the rules state:

Routing - Travel Wholly Within or Between All Other Regions

These awards do not allow a connection via North America and therefore, do not include travel on American Airlines.

Use the most direct routing available

Connecting travel is not allowed outside the region or regions

Connections of more than 24 hours are considered a stopover and will price at more than 1 award

RSD cannot override the connecting time when flights are only offered a few days a week
Unless you really meant only in extreme re-ticketing circumstances, etc.
