ANZ has watered down the rewards scheme for its Qantas-linked credit cards, clipping the wings of customers hoping to score free flights.

The country's largest bank has made a public notice of changes to its Qantas ANZ Visa and Qantas ANZ Visa Platinum cards, effective November 17.

The basic card will only earn one Qantas point on purchases up to $5000 a year, half the current limit of $10,000. After that, one point will be earned per $2 spent.

The platinum card will also earn one point for every dollar up to $20,000, down from $30,000, and one point per $2 over the limit

I assume they made a mistake with the "one Qantas point on purchase up to $5000" when it should read "one Qantas point per dollar on purchases..."
