This leads me to the legal aspect of hacking. If one is caught hacking a school's computer and changing the grades they can see from which IP address it has been done from and catch the person. Although there is IP spoofers still there may be a way to see where the hack is coming from via the MAC address.
Obviously, you do not know what you are talking about here... It is much, much, much more complicated. Take it from someone who is earning living by investigating cyber crime... Just few points for you to think about
:
- If you trace the IP to school lab computer, how do you know who was sitting in front of it?
- If you know who was sitting in front of it (you keep good audit trail), how do you prove it? (Hint - shared password, stupid people who do not log off etc)
- Have you heard about DHCP? And how about IPv6?
- Changing MAC address is way easier than you may think.
