I suspect I was rejected for listing my status as "self-employed." I suspect I would have been approved if I listed my status as "retired."
If it says "income" then you can include income from all sources, not just earned income.
Entering self-employed may not have helped for sure. I am not sure what you investment income is and it is none of my business but lets say it is $12,000 per year. That would not be looked at as a very profitable career, while putting retired would signify something much different
