Hey WindowontheAside - basically yes. One of the best chances to grab seats like CX first - especially two of them - is to book ahead of time via Avios or the airline's own FF program. So - if you don't have CX miles, Avios allow you the opportunity to secure flights early on - especially for peak travel times.

Usually, by the time the 330 window rolls out for AA - the availability is gone - especially for travel around the holidays... or at best if you get lucky there's only 1 seat available in F.
