Geirfugl, that is correct and is because it is not designed as a real backpack would be to deal with the issue of how to have it contact your back without a problem. Look at the Farpoint 40 on the other hand. It has a spacer mesh back panel which means that no matter how much you stuff in or whether you place a hard object with projecting points on it at the back, nothing will be felt by your back and there will always be air circulation to help against sweating.

This is why as I have said on this thread, the 40 is better for carrying on your back for extended periods of time vs. the 46. Both do what they are DESIGNED to do very well, the problem is that people usually don't understand what a given bag is and is not designed to do.
