I think it would be ok to put unemployed and supplement documents like following:
- Financial support (from your would be spouse) to cover full cost of your visit (especially liquid assets)
- Invitation letter with details of itinerary for your stay in India (as much details as you can provide)
- Some kind of employment letter from your sponsor proving he has a stable job capable of supporting your visit

With these documents your application should be strong enough for a visa. Just go over the requirements carefully and make sire you address all of them with maximum evidence and truth.
