Completely agree with UKtravelbear about shopping round. I personally am not a big fan of VH, but would never say don't book with them.

Being a Frequent Virgin (Virgin Holiday's own loyalty scheme - I think) is not really the same as the Flying Club. It has its own perks for package deals, but personally I tend to make my own transport and accommodation arrangements, and don't book a package.

This is inevitably cheaper, but can come back to bite you in the event of problems - for example the Icelandic ash cloud, as you don't get the same protection - but, then again, that is what (good) travel insurance is there for. ;-)
