got it. My conversation with the barclays agent also led to similar conclusion. if you have enough miles to pay the charge in full, there is no increments of 2500 miles and you can use any quantity of miles

Another side question - if i cancel a hotel after I have applied the miles to the charge and get a refund from the hotel, do I stand to lose anything?
