IMHO, FTL status is only worth it if you fly often on LH from airports with C lounges. However, if you have this flight pattern you will have FTL status for free because of the 30-segment promotion, so I cannot come up with a good reason for someone to pay EUR 500 for this.
Couple of trips with extra bag and 125/25% mile credit might also make it worthy.
