I tend not to entirely trust the engineering on the TU144.

One of the items to come out of the fall of the iron curtain is that while NASA was using computers to engineer tolerances on spacecraft, the Soviet Union was using brilliant minds and sliderules.

No matter how good the engineer, some tolerances need to be calculated more closely than a sliderule will allow.
