Codeshare ticket: Fare Class?
My apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere.
When you buy a codeshare ticket from one airline for a flight operated by another airline, which airline sets the fare class?
A few months ago, I bought a ticket from Alitalia for a flight operated by Korean Air from Seoul to Rome. Never again.
I'm trying to get my miles posted to my Korean Air Skypass account. Korean Air says they must get an e-ticket from Alitalia that lists my fare class (i.e., Y, B, M, H, K, V, T, etc.), so that Korean Air knows whether to award my miles at 100%, 75%, 50%, or 0.
Of course, all the electronic receipts I have from Alitalia don't list this information. After many phone calls and emails back and forth, Alitalia says that they do not have this information, and I must contact Korean Air. And Korean Air sends me back to Alitalia.
I would have thought that the airline that handles the money and sells the tickets would handle the fare class, but I genuinely don't know. I also wouldn't have though that this information would be so hard to find. If they were able to process the credit card payment, wouldn't they be able to call this up easily? Honestly, I thought getting the receipt would be the easy part.
My brain says Alitalia should know, but in my heart, however, I hope it is Korean Air, because my experiences with Alitalia's "customer service" have been so frustrating.
