Another Evacuation: LGA Delta Terminal, 5/11
A Mother's Day present from the TSA (from the New York Times, 5/12/03):
QUEENS: AIRPORT TERMINAL EVACUATED A terminal at La Guardia Airport was evacuated for about an hour last night in what proved to be a false alarm after security screeners thought they spotted a weapon in someone's bag, the authorities said. The evacuation of the Delta Airlines terminal was ordered about 7:15 p.m., resulting in long delays for passengers. The Associated Press said 1,500 passengers were required to clear the area and have their luggage screened a second time. The authorities said the problem occurred when security screeners, whose suspicions had been raised by an X-ray image of carry-on luggage, grabbed the wrong bag for further examination. A passenger took the bag that had been considered suspicious and walked into the terminal before security personnel realized their mistake. The terminal reopened about 8:15 p.m.. Thomas J. Lueck (NYT)
