Thanks for the clarification. There are two SYD-OOL flights on the morning of the 14th 605AM arr 625AM and 705AM arr 725AM that will give him plenty of time to connect in OOL. Just 64AUD including baggage fees (1 bag 20kg)!
He will still need to claim baggage in OOL and check in.

Ensure he pays the baggage fees for the international ticket PRIOR to travelling in order to get the cheaper rate.
